In each municipality there is at least one Centro de Salud (health centre), where one is cared for 24 hours a day in case of emergency. The big and modern island hospital is located in San Sebastían, where the ambulance is also open 24 hours a day. The emergency call for the emergency doctor is 112.
There is even a private medical practice in Valle Gran Rey. You have to pay the treatment directly in cash. You can reach the "Centro Medico" under the following telephone number: 0034 922 8056 29.
There are several dentists in San Sebastian. However, they often only speak Spanish. The German dentist Eva Maria Schütz runs a simple, small dental practice in Playa Santiago. You can reach Eva by telephone at 0034 922 895 676, but the "Clinica Dental" in San Sebastian also does a very good job.
Pharmacies can be found in every larger town. An emergency service is offered on Sundays and public holidays. Often the prices for medicines are much cheaper than in Europe.
There are no special vaccination regulations for La Gomera, but please note the international travel advices.
Meanwhile there are many, also quite comfortable possibilities to arrive to La Gomera.
However, most of the tourists still land at the airport Tenerife-South (TFS) and from there you have to get to La Gomera. Often it comes to longer waiting times, because the ferries drive only maximum 3x daily, or one must wait for hours for the bus, since one does not know when this actually comes.

Normally the bed linen and some towels are provided. However, always check the information on your rented accommodation, where all the details are explained in detail.
Most accommodations are self-catering. This means that you cannot expect housekeeping and that you will have to get your own toilet paper and flushing utensils.
Often the accommodation is only cleaned once a week. Please contact us if you would like the accommodation to be cleaned more often and we will try to organise this.
Different payment and cancellation modalities apply to the different objects. Please note the information in the respective property descriptions on our website.
In order to guarantee the booking we ask for a deposit of 10-50% of the total amount after your booking, depending on the object. Each accommodation has its own conditions. After a booking we will send you a detailed invoice. In this invoice, the deadlines for the deposit and final payment are noted.
Some owner require a deposit due to bad experiences or a very high-quality facility. This will of course be returned to you after departure if everything is in order.
A binding reservation will only be made once you have received confirmation from us. In a few cases it may happen that the objects are already fully booked although they are marked as "free".

There are many car rental companies on La Gomera.
We at Canarianfeeling prefer the cooperation with local, small car rental companies, which are characterized by: personal contact, guarantees solid prices, very good service, uncomplicated handling, no deposit, pick-up and delivery according to agreement.
We strongly advise you not to book your rental car with a low-cost provider! In case of a breakdown you will often be left alone.

There is a small petrol station in every larger municipality (San Sebastian has 2 petrol stations, Hermigua, Vallehermoso, Playa de Santiago, Vallehermoso, Valle Gran Rey and Chipude each have one). The opening hours are from 8am - 8 pm (at least), on Sundays and holidays they are usually closed from 2pm (without guarantee).
Climatically, the island is separated into the dry south and the moist fertile nothern half. The rain and condensed water is collected in reservoirs. This is distributed to the residents and terraced fields.
However, the weather on La Gomera is suitable for holidays all year round.
In the mountain regions it is often colder during the day and at night than on the coast. The differences in temperature between daytime and night, as well as between summer and winter, are much more predominant at altitude.

Currency in Spain - and therefore also on La Gomera - is the Euro (€).
Major credit cards are accepted in many shops and restaurants (VISA and Mastercard). Every major town has an ATM.
But there are also a lot of small shops, providers and cafes which only accept cash.
Please note the fees of your bank for cash withdrawals.
The tap water on La Gomera is not drinkable. It is often spring water, which has been mixed with a lot of chlorine. However, it is best suited for showering and brushing teeth.
Drinking water can be bought cheaply in all supermarkets. For the love to the environment we recommend that you buy the large 5 - 8 litre canisters and then decant them. This is also much cheaper.

Here we usually have 220/230 volt outlets, and of normal size. There are some old sockets, these are about 1mm smaller . You can buy adapters in an electrical store.
Found mainly in the sports shops in San Sebastian and in the shop of a great hiking tour in Valle Gran Rey (in La Puntilla and in La Playa). This has probably the largest selection of appropriate footwear. Basically there is no demand for offering a large selection of brands. As compared with a supplier in mainland Europe. It is therefore essential to check the personal equipment before departure. There is a good assortment of backpacks and hiking clothing in the Valle Gran Rey (at Safari-shop and Timah hiking store). You can get good replacement equipment here.
The official language is Spanish, in the larger towns you can communicate in English or German. However, many locals speak only Spanish.
Usually the shops are open from Monday to Saturday morning at least from 9:30 am am to 01:00pm. After that a small siesta, usual in Spain, is made and from 05:00pm to 08:00pm is then open again. Saturdays are usually open until 01:00pm and Sundays are closed. In more touristic places, it is often also open on Sundays and holidays.
The restaurants on La Gomera are mostly open throughout the season, but often only in the evenings.
Unfortunately, during the opening hours, one cannot really give exact information, as each shop and each restaurant handles it differently. But this reflects the relaxed lifestyle!
Identity card or passport are accepted as in all of Europe.
Nearly all apartments are required at the arrival of the identity cards of all travelers, in order to comply with the local reporting obligation. Bring copies of the identity cards of all travelers to make this process easier.
Pets, dogs and cats that can be taken to the island and are theoretically allowed in some objects. Provided they are small dogs (up to 6 kg) or cats are in appropriate containers, they can usually fly as hand luggage in the cabin. Larger dogs travel in special flight boxes in the hold. The same is for the ferries - all animals are to be transported in appropriate boxes. All dogs and cats need an EU pet passport with the corresponding vaccination (rabies), a veterinarian health certificate and must be microchipped.
Are available in every major town, some shops sell postcards and stamps together. The post offices are open Monday to Saturday from 09.00-14.00 hours. At the post office you can also recharge the prepaid cards (the Spanish). The prepaid card itself can be bought in the Movistar store in San Sebastian and Valle Gran Rey.
There are now in San Sebastian, Playa de Santiago and Valle Gran Rey (there are now 3 )- in La Playa, La Puntilla, and in Vueltas (all in the beach area), prices range depending on length of stay and "vehicle type" between 13 and 20 EUR. Bicycles must be picked up in the store and returned. There is no pick-up and delivery service for individual tours.
Guided bike tours are offered from Valle Gran Rey - you can take the shuttle service to the start of the bike tour (mostly in the higher areas of the island) at the end of the tour, you will be collected and returned to Valle Gran Rey with the shuttle service.
