This apartment „El Cielo“ is one of two accommadations in the same house. The house is located in a little quarter, called “Los Pedacitos“. A stairway of about 80 steps leads up to the house. There’s parking at the bottom of the stair or in the nearby car park. The few neighbours are spread over several terraces in the area.
To the beach and the nearest restaurant, it‘s only a 5-minute walk, the supermarket is not 1000 meters away.
At least two trails can be started directly from the house - a trail leads along the beach via Lepe to Agulo and from there over the red wall to the view point "Mirador del Abrante", in the other direction you can walk directly across the house In the neighboring valley to "Playa de la Caleta".
The valley of Hermigua stretches over a distance of about 7 kilometers, the national park in the background, down to the sea. Nearly 2000 inhabitants are spread over 20 small hamlets scattered on the left and right of the valley.
Since part of the National Park and the hamlet of El Cedro belong to the region, Hermigua is fed all year round by the small river "Rio del Cedro" and is, therefore, the most watery and greenest valley on the whole island.
Hermigua still lives mainly from agriculture - the mostly sunny terraces are planted with bananas, avocados, papayas, mangos, corn potatoes and other vegetables, which can be harvested up to three times a year.
In addition to agriculture, sustainable tourism has developed over the last few years. The guests are usually accommodated in a so-called "Casas rurales" (country houses), or rural self-catering apartments.
In the upper valley, just after entering the village, there is a small supermarket and a very good restaurant, "Las Chacaras". A little further down is “Supermarket Hermigua", where you can buy excellent fresh fruit and veg.
The main business takes place in the lower valley, in the immediate vicinity of the main road. Here you will find two bakeries, a supermarket, several banks with cash machines, a tourist information centre, a Community Centre, accessible to all, a pharmacy, medical center, petrol station etc.
Cafés, bars and restaurants can all be found in the vicinity of the main street. For fish lovers, restaurant "El Faro" is recommended. Restaurant "Telemaco" near the yellow church offers a good menu and occasionally also live music and salsa dancing. Also the terrace café & tapas bar "Pedro" offers morning rolls and breakfast (baguette bread), homemade cakes and tapas, everything your heart desires!! And also live music and sometimes karaoke.
Hermigua is a very beautiful and diverse hiking area - from the National Park, El Cedro down to the Playa de la Caleta and further, as well as to the neighboring valley of Los Aceviños and La Palmita, this hike offers the walker a lot of variety and different degrees of difficulty. The pleasant climate here in the north east offers very good conditions for hiking all year round.
In the winter months, the Atlantic is mostly too rough and stormy to swim. This impressive spectacle is better enjoyed from the beach. The nearest bathing beach is in San Sebastían, the journey takes about 25-30mins. In summer it’s different – you can bathe at Caleta beach or in the natural sea-pool "Pescante" (the former loading port of Hermigua, it’s a delightful pleasure.
Bus stops are at intervals along the main road, bus line 2 runs between San Sebastían and Vallehermoso, 4x daily, and in both directions. To get to the south of the island, you have to travel firstly to San Sebastían and change there. Therefore a rental car is absolutely recommended.
